Back in September, Niantic announced that Apple Watch support for Pokémon Go would be incoming.
The Apple Watch version of the app would have a few advantages over the plain Pokémon Go app, or even Pokémon Go Plus. The Apple Watch Pokémon Go app would let users see how their eggs were faring, which Pokémon are nearby and alert the user when a nearby Pokémon entered catching range.
However, rumors swirled indicating that Niantic was shelving its plans for the app.
Niantic swiftly rebutted the rumors, circling around an image from an alleged Niantic rep claiming that the port had been shelved. In a statement, Niantic said:
“Thanks for checking with us! The image in that Reddit post is not real. Development on Pokémon Go continues, as it has since before the Apple announcement. We’ll have more news on the product soon.”
Now Niantic has confirmed that they still plan to release an app for Pokémon Go on the Apple Watch:
It’s unclear whether “soon” means that the app will be arriving before the end of the year, but at least this shows that Apple Watch users can still expect to enjoy Pokémon Go on their smartwatch.
Unfortunately, there’s no news about Pokemon Go arriving on Android Wear yet.
