The stage is set for Pokémon across its two fronts, and with it we may finally glean some more information with regards to future entries in the franchise.
Pokémon Press Conference
First off, The Pokémon Company will be holding a special press conference in Tokyo, Japan later today, May 28. The developer promised information relating to “a number of topics of interest to Pokémon fans.” The Pokémon Company is quite well-known for making these types of conferences, and in fact some of their latest titles were announced during these events. Two of the last Pokémon titles for the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Let’s Go, Pickachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! were previously touched on during these conferences. In addition, mobile titles under the Pokémon brand were also discussed during previous conferences, like Niantic’s hit Pokémon Go and Game Freak’s action-adventure title Pokémon Quest.
In terms of games that could be announced, mobile developer DeNA is currently working on the next Pokémon title for smartphones. DeNA previously worked on other Nintendo mobile titles such as Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
The Pokémon Company’s 2019 press conference will go live later tonight, May 28, at 9:00 p.m. EDT. It will be broadcast on the company’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct
In more exciting Pokémon news, Nintendo has announced the title for their next Direct livestream presentation. After showcasing the upcoming Super Mario Maker 2 in a Nintendo Direct for this month, Nintendo is set to hold the next Direct for Pokémon Sword and Shield, which will be livestreamed on June 5. Pokémon Sword and Shield is the next big Pokémon role-playing title set to release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
In addition to this Direct, Nintendo will also be holding one during the E3 2019 press conference, which will debut less than a week later on June 11. This Direct is expected to discuss more upcoming games for this year coming from Nintendo, and a list of potential games to be announced can be found here.
The Pokémon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct is scheduled to last 15 minutes, and will be aired on June 5 at 9:00 a.m. EDT. It will be available to watch on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
