Pokkén Tournament releases on March 18, but the Pokémon fighting game has already gained a lot of buzz in the video game competition community.
The mashup of Tekken and Pokémon is confirmed for EVO 2016 and will be part of the Pokémon US National Tournament alongside the trading card game and the main Pokemon series. Qualification for the national tournament will continue on March 17 at the newly renovated Nintendo NY store.
Sixteen winners from the early competitions that took place at eight GameStop stores on Feb. 27 will gather from 4 – 9:20 p.m. EST to see who will compete in the Pokémon US National Tournament on July 1-3 in Columbus, Ohio.
Several divisions will participate in the Pokkén Tournament competition at the Nintendo NY store. Eight Senior Division winners (born 2001 or later) and eight Masters Division winners (born 2000 or earlier) will take part.
There will also be a special exhibition featuring professional fighting game players in their very own bracket, so you can expect some high intensity battles.
Each Division winner will get a Wii U system with the Pokkén Tournament game and a travel award to the 2016 Pokémon US National Championships.
Players in Columbus will battle to advance to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships, the premiere Pokémon tournament of the year.
If you aren’t around the city or if you want to watch all of the festivities, Nintendo will be streaming the Pokkén Tournament competition on their Twitch channel tonight, which you can watch below.
