One of the many Nintendo 3DS games announced at the Nintendo Direct showcasing 2017’s offerings was Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World, which is slated for a Feb. 3 release. Nintendo has announced some of its game modes and how amiibos will work with the upcoming platformer.
Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World is pretty much a port of Yoshi’s Woolly World on the Nintendo Wii U, but the 3DS version comes with some added extras including the use of Poochy pups to help Yoshi find secret areas and items scattered across the six worlds of the game.
Fans will also have a chance to get their hands on the new Yarn Poochy amiibo, which gives Yoshi support in each stage. The Yarn Poochy amiibo figure also unlocks timed challenges for Poochy-themed stages that reward new designs for Poochy once players complete the missions.
Other amiibo figures that work with Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World include the Animal Crossing and Splatoon series figures, which allow players to play new patterns for Yoshi like Tom Nook, Isabelle, Callie or Marie. It seems that other amiibo will work with the game as well and Nintendo encourages players to tap each one to see how Yoshi will change.
There’s also a Craft Yoshi mode that lets players design their own patterned Yoshi. Using intuitive tools, you can use the Nintendo 3DS touch screen to design your own Yoshi and share through StreetPass.
In addition to the game, one animated short starring Yoshi and Poochy will be unlocked every day for 30 days for people that own the game. These short stop-motion animations can be viewed through a menu in the game.
If Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World is too difficult, players can switch to Mellow Mode to gain the assistance of the aforementioned Poochy Pups. These sweet little Pups will sniff out secrets, wrap up enemies and can even double as yarn balls for Yoshi to throw.
A limited-edition bundle that includes the game and the Yarn Poochy amiibo will also be available on Feb. 3 at a suggested retail price of $49.99. The Yarn Poochy amiibo can be purchased separately for $16.99.
