The release date for Power Rangers: Legacy Wars was revealed during the Unity keynote at this year's GDC. The mobile game releasing in support of the Power Rangers movie will be coming out one day before the movie hits theaters on Thursday, March 23.
Power Rangers stars past and present were on hand to show off the game, including Jason David Frank and Ludi Lin. Frank played the Green Ranger in the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers TV series, while Lin will be playing the Black Ranger in the upcoming movie.
Power Rangers: Legacy Wars is a real-time multiplayer game, with players building a team of Power Rangers and villains to defeat Rita Repulsa and her army of evil Power Ranger clones. It's also the first time a video game has spanned the 24 year history of the Power Rangers franchise to include characters from the entire series.
Unlike a traditional fighting game where the person who can hit the buttons the fastest typically wins, Power Rangers: Legacy Wars features a unique timing system. Players constantly are earning points over time, and can use attacks that take a certain amount of points. This means you can't keep spamming the same attacks again and again, because you'll run out of points and won't be able to earn them back. It's also a three on three fight, similar to Marvel vs. Capcom, with players able to swap between characters with the push of a button.
If you happen to live in Brazil or Canada, you'll be able to start playing Power Rangers: Legacy Wars as early as March 2. For the rest of the world, you'll just have to wait for the global launch on March 23. Power Rangers: Legacy Wars will be releasing on iOS and Android devices.
