A few days ago, Ubisoft released a list of games that will be backwards compatible with Xbox Series X, but not with PlayStation 5. The list included popular Assassin's Creed games and several other Ubisoft titles. While Ubisoft only stated that these games will not be backwards compatible with the PS5, the publisher did not share the reason as to why this was the case. Recently, however, the list has been taken down from Ubisoft's website.
According to a Ubisoft email received by The Verge, a spokesperson from Ubisoft explained the reason for taking down the list by stating, “We have pulled the Ubisoft Connect article and forum post regarding backwards compatibility for the time being as there may be inaccuracies involving the Ubisoft titles that will be playable on PS5.”
Ubisoft also said that the correct list of games will be shared next week.
Regarding backwards compatibility, Sony had previously confirmed that the PS5 will be capable of playing almost all PS4 games. Sony also stated that only 10 PS4 games will be unplayable on the PS5, and seeing the new list shared by Ubisoft, fans were seriously concerned as to which other developers would come out with similar news. Sony also released the list of PS4 games that are incompatible with the PS5, which includes:
- DWVR
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Shadwen
- Joe's Diner
Sony also stated that these games will carry an exclusive "Playable on: PS4 only" label/warning to prevent accidental downloads.
Backwards compatibility has already been a considerable blow to the PS5 as the rival Xbox Series X/S is said to be compatible with all previous Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games that also run on the Xbox One.
The PlayStation 5 is releasing on November 12.
