Bethesda wants you to get a feel for Prey before the game’s May release date. An hour-long Prey demo will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 starting April 27.
The demo will feature the first hour of the game where you get to explore Talos I and dive right into Morgan Yu’s story. Yu is one of many researchers studying the alien Typhon species. Something goes terribly wrong along the way and Yu must use a neuromod to help save the human race.
The only problem is when you uninstall a neuromod it resets your memory, which in turn forces you to relive the same day over and over again if someone doesn’t correct the situation. We don’t know why Yu is trapped in the loop, but the researcher has been able to leave himself clues along the way. Yu has left himself recording of what he’s found as he’s explored Talos I.
But can Yu trust his own recordings? Yu tells the player there’s only two people they can trust, January and his own recordings. Yu also says someone named Alex is the one responsible for skipping the second part of uninstalling the neuromod. It’s up to the player to follow the clues left by Yu, Alex and whoever else is in on the secrets hidden on Talos I.
As for the gameplay, Bethesda rolled out an intriguing human and alien aspect to upgrades. The player can install as many neuromods as they’d like, but each will come at a cost to Yu. There are Typhon-based neuromods that will cause the player to become less human. You’ll have to play for yourself to see what that means.
