For months now, rumors and leaks were hinting at the existence of a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. Even today we saw a few screenshots and promotional materials relating to the game. Now Ubisoft has made the game official. The official announcement was made during Ubisoft's second digital Ubisoft Forward presentation event, giving fans a first look at how the Sands of Time remake is going to look and play.
According to the announcement, the remake is said to be faithful to the original story. However, there may be some twists and turns within the story that shouldn't impact the ultimate outcome. The game will also see significant visual upgrades over the original title and the developement team has also used motion capture technology to add a touch of realism to cutscenes and animations. On the whole, however, the remake should feel familiar to the original 2003 release.
Additionally, Ubisoft confirmed that Prince of Persia's original voice talent, Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced the Prince in The Sands of Time, has also voiced the Prince in the remake. Lowenthall was also involved in the motion capture process, so fans can look forward to an authentic nostalgic trip.
If the remake happens to captivate fans and sell a decent number of copies, one can safely assume that Ubisoft will consider remaking the entire trilogy. In fact, previous rumors have stated that the company is already remaking the entire Sands of Time trilogy and not just the first game. But, the early reception to Sands of Time's announcement hasn't been all that exciting. The game trailer is already seeing an increase in the dislike ratio on YouTube. The game certainly looks below current graphical standards and the animations aren't very smooth either. But, since the game is launching in January 2021, Ubisoft could use that time to at least make the remake look more graphically impressive.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is releasing on January 21 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
