In a shocking turn of events, it was revealed that Fallout 4 mods for PS4 would not be happening. According to Bethesda, the reason for this is Sony’s refusal to “approve user mods the way they should work.” This means that Skyrim: Legendary Edition will also not be seeing mod support from Sony’s consoles.
To make things even more crazy, Farming Simulator 17 is doubling up, re-confirming mod support will be available for this year’s farming game right at launch on both PS4 and Xbox One. How does that work? Probably because Farming Simulator 17 will have a different approach to implementing mods.
In Bethesda’s post about how mods aren’t coming to PS4, the developer mentioned, “until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.” The word choice of “proper mod support” is the interesting line here. Is Farming Simulator 17 doing mods differently?
Another theory is that Farming Simulator 17 will curate its mods differently. Bethesda’s post also mentions its vision for mods is “where users can do anything they want” in Bethesda’s games. Maybe Sony has an issue with certain mods, but Farming Simulator’s will only be simple skin swaps.
The only way to know how all of this works out is if you happen to be a Sony employee. Until we hear more from the company about mods and how some games will allow them and others will not, everything is just pure speculation.
Farming Simulator 17 comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 25.
So what do you think? Are you curious to see why some games are allowed mod support on PS4 and others aren’t? Are you excited to see Farming Simulator 17 confirming mod support across all platforms? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
