While we know a number of games that will update to support the graphical enhancements of the PS4 Pro, The Witcher 3 will not be one of them. Developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed this in a statement provided to Eurogamer.
While The Witcher 3 does run in 4K on PC, apparently it would take too much work to get everything running properly for the PS4 Pro. The reason CD Projekt RED doesn’t want to put in the work is because it is too busy focusing on new projects.
"Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent, and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro," CD Projekt Red told Eurogamer.
This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. We saw the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year Edition in August, and Game of the Year editions typically signal the end of a game’s development period. The time has come for CD Projekt RED to officially move on and not work on past projects anymore.
The games we do know will be getting an update for the PS4 Pro are as follows. Sony also mentioned all new games released after October must support the PS4 Pro.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Killing Floor 2
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Infamous: First Light
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Paragon
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
