February was a surprisingly awesome month for smaller games. The heartfelt Unravel, the emotional Firewatch, the… ok, so Layers of Fear wasn’t that great. There were still plenty of other cool games out there to try out.
Moving on to March, we have some big names dropping, but no truly great console exclusives to get excited about. Let’s start off with the multi-platform releases.
Note: These are the known release dates at the time of this article’s publishing. Things may change from now until the end of March.
Multi-platform Games
The first game coming out in March is Screencheat , the FPS game where you have to cheat to win. All players will appear invisible in the game, and the only way to find each other is by looking at their screen, like you did playing Goldeneye all those years ago. Screencheat comes out March 1.
Alekhine’s Gun is a third-person stealth game that was supposed to come to Xbox One and PS4 on Feb. 9. Set during the events of the Cold War and featuring WWII flashback sequences, players will sneak their way to getting their missions accomplished. The new release date is March 1.
Coming March 2, we have Gunscape . This game can basically be summed up as “ Minecraft , but for FPS games.”
Ironcast is a match-3 game, where players are controlling giant Steampunk mechs. (That’s a real sentence that I just typed right there.) Ironcast will release for the PS4 on March 2 and Xbox One on March 4.
Blast ‘em Bunnies is a shooter where you man a turret and can only shoot out from one point in 360 degrees. It’ll be coming to Xbox One and PS4 on March 8.
The Division is probably the biggest release of March, and possibly one of the biggest releases of the year. Coming March 8, The Division is a third-person shooter set in New York City after a deadly disease has spread.
Casey Powell Lacrosse 16 was just announced and doesn’t even have a trailer. I’m only including it on this list because I love lacrosse and can’t wait to see a new lacrosse video game. Casey Powell Lacrosse 16 is coming March 9. EDIT: A trailer is now live for the game, which can be viewed above
The first section of Hitman debuts on March 11. This will only include the prologue missions and Paris. More cities will be added in the following months, with the entire planned game getting released by the end of 2016.
EA Sports UFC 2 will be releasing on March 15. This fighting game will feature a massive roster of over 250 MMA fighters. I don’t know much about UFC, but I do know too much about WWE, so I’m excited to see CM Punk included in the roster.
For the racing fans, March 15 will also see the release of Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo . This rally racing game will see players hit both the track and the dirt as they race for first place.
Trackmania Turbo will also be coming in March for racing fans. Unlike the previous game, Turbo is more of an arcade-style racing game instead of a hardcore racing sim. Trackmania Turbo will be releasing on March 22.
Lichdom: Battlemage is an action RPG that looks very much like Skyrim , but from the perspective of a magic user. Lichdom: Battlemage will be coming out on March 22.
101 Ways To Die is the perfect game to scratch that sadistic itch we all get sometimes. Players devise deadly traps to kill all of the characters on-screen. Think about it like Lemmings , but in reverse. 101 Ways To Die will be releasing on March 23.
The last multi-platform game coming out in March is MXGP 2 . Another racing game, MXGP 2 is different in that it is a motocross racing game, and will be coming out on March 31.
PS4 Games
The first game coming to PS4 on March 1 is a remaster of the PS3 hit Heavy Rain . This tense, story-driven game keeps you guessing up to the very end. Give it a try if you haven’t played before.
The Witch And The Hundred Knight: Revival Edition is another PS3 remake coming to the PS4 on March 1. This game is an isometric RPG, similar to the Diablo games.
Broforce is also coming to PS4 on March 1. This parody of 80s action movies is also a fun 2D side-scrolling shooter. Get out there, and go blow some stuff up.
While already out on PC, Kholat comes to PS4 on March 8. This survival horror game features Sean Bean as the narrator, which is pretty cool.
Senran Kagura: Estival Versus is apparently some game about swimsuits. I honestly don’t know what’s going on in this trailer, but the game features over 25 playable characters. So there’s that.
République was originally launched as a mobile game for iOS, and has since spread to other mobile platforms and Steam. The PS4 version will be coming on March 22, and is said to be the best looking version yet.
MLB: The Show 16 looks to firmly place itself as the best baseball video game to date when it comes out on March 29. Expect plenty of great graphics and compelling baseball gameplay.
Nights of Azure is the last game coming to PS4 next month, on March 29. This JRPG features everything you’re expecting: swords, scantily-clad women, demons and a story that probably involves saving the world.
Day of the Tentacle Remastered is also slated to come to the PS4 in March. No official release date has been confirmed as of yet, but you should be preparing for this comedy/adventure/puzzle classic.
Xbox One
Tron Run/r is the first Xbox One exclusive for March, releasing on March 1. Already available on PS4 and PC, Tron Run/r looks like a mash-up of all those endless runner games you find populating mobile stores.
Stranger of Sword City is a dungeon-crawling RPG that was originally released on Xbox 360 back in 2014. This remaster will feature a new graphical style, and is set to release on March 22.
Tropico 5 was released for PC in 2014 and PS4 in 2015. The Xbox One version of the popular simulation game will be in stores March 29.
The only true Xbox One exclusive in March is Killer Instinct Season 3 . The new fighters coming this round include Rash from Battletoads , Arbiter from Halo , and Kim Wu, Tusk and Gargos from Killer Instinct 2 . No official date has been mentioned for Killer Instinct Season 3 outside of March.
Who Wins?
This month is pretty lackluster for both consoles, in terms of exclusives anyway. If you’re a fighting game fan, Killer Instinct Season 3 will make the Xbox One the winner for you. If you like sports, MLB: The Show 16 will probably give the edge to the PS4. Regardless, both consoles are flooded with ports and remasters. On to April, where we have some heavy hitters for both sides!
