After the pretty great month of game releases that we had in April, May looks to continue our good fortunes with some solid releases. But what console has the better month in May? Read on to find out.
NOTE: This list is compiled of every known release date at the time of publishing. Due to the nature of video game development, these dates could be changed.
Multi-Platform Releases
These games will be coming to both Xbox One and PS4 in May.
The first game coming out in May is Battleborn. From developer Gearbox, this hero shooter launches with 25 characters, each with their own unique abilities and weapons. Battleborn will be coming out on May 3.
The Park is the next game coming to PS4 and Xbox One on May 3. This psychological horror adventure game will have ties to the MMO The Secret World, and features a woman searching through an abandoned amusement park to find her lost son.
DOOM is one of the biggest releases of the month, coming May 13. This reboot of the franchise features fast gameplay, tight controls and an expansive multiplayer thanks to the SnapMap feature.
Homefront: The Revolution will be releasing on May 17 for Xbox One and PS4 gamers. This alternate history game shows what would have happened if North Korea won the Korean War and took over a fallen America.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan is an interesting game, seeing as how it is a completely unique product. There are no movie ties, no TV show ties, not even any previous game ties. Platinum Games has created their own interpretation of the Turtles, and it releases May 24.
Blizzard's latest effort, Overwatch, has the eSports scene buzzing like crazy. Featuring a large cast of characters, Overwatch is the developer’s most unique project to date. This hero shooter will be releasing on May 24, so we’ll see if it can live up to the hype.
One Piece: Burning Blood is the latest One Piece game to feature over-the-top stylish action. Playing like a fighting game, players control their favorite One Piece characters to unleash devastating combos and attacks. One Piece: Burning Blood will be released on May 31.
The last game coming to both PS4 and Xbox One in May is Dead Island: Definitive Collection. This bundle features remastered versions of both Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. If you haven’t given the Dead Island series a try yet, here’s your best opportunity. Dead Island: Definitive Edition releases on May 31.
PS4 Exclusives
These games will be exclusive to PS4 in May.
The first game coming exclusively to PS4 in May is Shadow Complex Remastered. While this has already been released on PC, and an Xbox One version is in the works, the PS4 is getting Shadow Complex Remastered first. This one will be available starting May 3.
Here’s the biggest game release of the month: Uncharted 4. After multiple delays, it seems we’ll finally get to play through Nathan Drake’s last adventure on May 10. Make sure you have tissues ready, I’m sure this will be an emotional ride.
Coming May 17 is Valkyria Chronicles: Remastered. This turn-based strategy game is set in something of an alternate history of World War II. Players control Squad 7 for the Gallian Militia, a group looking to maintain their home country’s neutrality in the war.
The last PS4 exclusive in March is Shadow of the Beast. This mysterious-sounding game also comes out on May 17, and sees players taking control of an alien who must overthrow the evil Maletoth from the planet Karemoon. Basically, this looks like a 2D God of War, which isn’t a bad thing.
Xbox One Exclusives
These games will be exclusive to Xbox One in May.
SUPERHOT is finally getting an Xbox One release date of May 3. This stylish shooter has already been released on the PC, but Xbox One gamers will get to try their hands at the time-bending craziness inside. Give this one a go if you haven’t yet, it’s worth your time.
While already out on PC and PS4, Xbox One finally gets in on the Tropico 5 fun starting on May 24. This city-building simulator sees players control El Presidente as he leads his island nation through the good times and the bad.
Who Wins?
This month is very easy: PS4. Thanks to the massive draw of Uncharted 4, and the weak Xbox One lineup of ports, Sony’s console wins the month of May. That’s not to say no good games are coming out on the Xbox One at all, so get out there and keep gaming!
