The Dota 2 WePlay AniMajor has come to a close and holding the crown is none other than PSG.LGD. Coming to the tournament as one of the favorites, they pretty much dominated the series. The team swept Evil Geniuses 3-0 and took home $200,000 plus 500 DPC points. The points put them at second place in the ranking though it didn’t matter since they already received a direct invite early in the tournament.
As runner-up, EG got $100,000 and 450 DPC points which put them at the top of the rankings.
The Journey to the Grand Final
Back in the Singapore Major, PSG.LGD worked their way from the Wild Card all the way to the Playoffs. However, at the Upper Bracket Final, they were defeated by EG and then by Invictus Gaming at the Lower Bracket Final. This gave them a third-place finish in that tournament.
For Season 2, PSG.LGD started a bit slow but had enough wins to secure a Group Stage placement for WePlay AniMajor. Here, they had a strong performance with 11 wins in 14 games.
During the Playoffs, the team beat out Alliance 2-0 in the first round. After that, they managed to get 2-1 wins first against Team Nigma and later versus T1. This gave them a spot in the Grand Finals and a guaranteed second place in the tournament.
A Rematch… of Sorts
In the Grand Final match against EG, PSG.LGD had a sort of advantage. That’s because EG had to work its way from the Lower Bracket.
The first game was all about PSG.LGD. Just how good were they? Wang “Ame” Chunyu and Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang had a combined 23 kills and 21 assists. Know what else? The two also had zero deaths. On the side of EG, three players had zero kills and one of these was Artour “Arteezy” Babaev.
For the second game, EG decided to have Storm Spirit for Abed Azel “Abed” Yusop. The strategy paid off initially with Abed getting the needed kills and giving EG the lead. However, PSG.LGD managed to hold on long enough for Ame’s Terrorblade to go online. After that, it was all PSG.LGD grabbing the 2-0 lead.
With momentum on their side, PSG.LGD knew that they had to end the match. In the third game, PSG.LGD went for Naga Siren on Ame and Death Prophet for NothingtoSay. They then rounded it up with Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida on Axe. EG did what it could but that combination proved to be too strong giving PSG.LGD the victory and with it the championship.
