The first gameplay trailer for Quake Champions debuted on Thursday, during the keynote at QuakeCon 2016, giving fans around the globe their first chance to see actual footage from the competitive shooter Bethesda and id Software announced back in June. Best of all, unlike the original DOOM gameplay reveal, it only took a little time for those outside of Dallas, TX to get their first taste of the next entry in the Quake franchise.
There’s still plenty we don’t know about Quake Champions. For starters, nobody has any idea when id and Bethesda are planning to release their next PC shooter. But we’re also not entirely sure how it’s going to play. Or at least we weren’t, prior to the debut of the world’s first Quake Champions gameplay trailer on Thursday afternoon. And longtime fans of the franchise should be happy to hear that the action being shown this week is exactly what you’d expect from any game bearing the Quake branding. Movement is fast, kills come even faster and it’s very clear, even before the game is out, that quick reflexes will be a must for anyone hoping to climb the Quake Champions ladder. And, yes, death looks every bit as brutal as you’d expect.
