Ubisoft has revealed how Rainbow Six: Siege has performed over the past year and its plans for 2017. It has also been confirmed that while there will be more content coming in 2017, there will be no new game modes to play.

As revealed on the Rainbow Six Twitch stream, some new features for 2017 will include:

  • Public test servers

  • No more P2P

  • Hit registration improvements

  • New homepage

  • Ability to customize loadouts while searching for a match in matchmaking

There will also be Seasons 2, 3 and 4 taking place before the end of the year, and Invitationals will be scheduled for 2018. Along with each season, players can expect to see new maps and operators released, like previous seasons.

According to an interview with PC Gamer, Rainbow Six: Siege will not be getting any new game modes. Instead, Ubisoft is aiming for 50 to 100 operators instead. "We're constantly looking and prototyping," Alexandre Remy, brand director for Rainbow Six: Siege, told PC Gamer. "But the thing is, when doing that we concluded that there are some foundations to Siege that we want to keep: attack versus defense, destruction, operators, and [only having] one life. That is the DNA of the game, so when you look at what game modes would sufficiently refresh the experience but remain faithful to those rules, there's not that many. Siege is its own game mode."

The end goal for Ubisoft is to have an almost MOBA-like approach to characters. “As we moved forward we realized there's so much depth with operators and destruction,” said Remy. “That has a lot to offer, so the focus is always going to be on refreshing the meta with operators and new maps."

This formula for new content seems to be working. Ubisoft has also revealed stats showing a huge growth in players since launch. According to Bertrand Chaverot, the director of Latin America at Ubisoft, Rainbow Six: Siege launched with 5 million active players, and now has more than doubled to 13 million. 3.9 million players play once a week, and 1.3 million players play once a day. Those are some impressive numbers.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see more operators and other improvements coming to Rainbow Six: Siege? Would you like to see more game modes, or are you happy with Siege mode? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
