What could be a screenshot for Red Dead Redemption 2 (or whatever the name of the new Red Dead game will be) has found its way online. While it’s still unknown what the actual screenshot is for, it could be either the next Red Dead game or a remastered Red Dead Redemption.
The image comes from the website of Matt Clyne. Clyne was an artist at Rockstar San Diego from 2003 to 2015 according to his LinkedIn profile, so obviously has done work on the Red Dead franchise.
So what’s with the picture? In it, we have a building that looks like it could be found in Thieve’s Landing, a location from Red Dead Redemption. Eagle-eyed reddit users have noted chromatic aberration in the screenshot, which is a feature found in the updated RAGE engine used for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions of GTA V. Because chromatic aberration is a new thing to Rockstar games, it wouldn’t be found in any artwork for an older game like Red Dead Redemption, even if it was a concept image.
If we want to really dive hardcore into this image, user Boone_Tuva pointed out that the plants in the photo resemble palmettos, commonly found in southern coastal states like Louisiana and Florida. One of the locations on the leaked Red Dead map is New Bordeaux, which is possibly the take on New Orleans found in the upcoming Mafia 3. Both games are published by Take-Two, so there could be some crossovers with the franchises.
Regardless, based on all these leaks combined with the fact that Red Dead Redemption is likely to be coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility at some point, we’re getting some kind of Red Dead announcement at E3. There’s no way Take-Two and Rockstar aren’t planning something at this point, so all aboard the hype train!!!
