When Mr. Poopy Butthole warned us that Rick and Morty season 3 wouldn’t return to TV for “like, a year and a half… or longer” we invested heavily in cryonics to cross that yawning temporal chasm. Now that nearly five months have passed, and we’ve only just managed to freeze a rabbit brain, it looks like we may all be in for the long haul.
Even if we cling to Poopy Butthole’s most optimistic prediction, we still won’t see new episodes of Rick and Morty until April of 2017. But Friday brought us one step closer, as the Rick and Morty voice actors stepped into the booth to start recording the season 3 premiere episode.
Mike McMahan is a writer for Rick and Morty and the creator of popular Twitter account TNG Season 8. He’s credited with the script for episode 301 of Rick and Morty, the upcoming season premiere.
McMahan announced in December 2015 that he had begun writing the first episode of the third season. Now, a little more than two and a half months later, new episodes are beginning to come to life.
There was about a year and half between the air date for the very first episode of Rick and Morty and the premiere of season 2. Though we still don’t know the production schedule for the upcoming season, it’s good to know that the premiere of Rick and Morty Season 3 is slowly, inexorably, taking shape.
