Only a few days ago, Risk of Rain 2 made waves when it hit the Nintendo Switch eShop with a $30 price tag. However, for folks who prefer physical copies of their games instead of just digital downloads, it seems Risk of Rain 2 is getting a physical release in November.
According to an Amazon listing, Risk of Rain 2 physical copies are expected to arrive on November 15, 2019 and will retail for around $40. The physical release of the game will also include the original Risk of Rain game, which has been available on Nintendo Switch since last year.
Risk of Rain 2 was originally designed and developed for PC, and distributed through Steam. Even though it’s still currently in Early Access, Risk of Rain 2 has made quite an impression on the gaming community, so much so that industry giant Gearbox Software has taken an interest.
Risk of Rain 2 developer Hopoo Games released a content roadmap detailing the planned content releases for this year all the way through to Summer 2020. While Hopoo has handed over console responsibilities to PlayEveryWare, the latter promises to keep the console editions of the game updated to the latest version of Risk of Rain 2. Currently, the Nintendo Switch version already includes the content included in the Scorched Acres update, so it seems console users don’t need to worry about missing out on new content.
For an independent game developer, getting a physical release of your game is a very big deal. Hopoo Games has been in the business since 2013 when they launched the original Risk of Rain, but the success of Risk of Rain 2 has won them the love of the gaming community, a partnership with Gearbox Software, and now a physical release for their flagship title.
Risk of Rain 2 is available on Nintendo Switch, but it is also available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Risk of Rain 2 is currently in Steam Early Access, but the game definitely offers plenty of content already and provides countless hours of solo or multiplayer fun.
