Rock Band 4 has had a pretty tumultuous lifespan. Not only did the revival of the popular rhythm game have to compete with Guitar Hero Live, which changed the genre with its new guitar and GHTV, but lackluster sales werea major factor in Mad Catz laying off 37 percent of its staff.
In an attempt to reach more people than it did at launch, the crew behind Rock Band 4 launched a crowdfunding campaign to get the game to PC and launch Rock Band Network. But sadly, the company’s crowdfunding efforts has failed.
The campaign, which ended on April 5, was hoping to raise $1.5 million but came hopelessly short at just under $800,000.
Where the Rock Band 4 team goes from here is still unclear, but the failed campaign speaks to the lack of fan support for the product, which may have a lot to do with the campaign catering exclusively PC users.
Yes, PC missed out when the game first launched, but to launch Rock Band Network only for PC users and not PS4 and Xbox One was a big mistake because the service will rely solely on Steam Workshop.
Harmonix, the development team behind the Rock Band franchise, mentioned the possibility of the most popular Rock Band Network songs to get brought over to PS4 and Xbox One, but that would be determined at a later date. But with the failed campaign to get the PC version up and running, don’t hold your breath.
