Following the official shutdown of rumors regarding a possible Nintendo Switch release for Dying Light 2, developer Techland will show some love for players on the handheld console, if rumors are to be believed.
Last week I reported on Techland CTO Pawel Rohleder, and while it was a very sad day for players who thought that the upcoming Dying Light 2 will see release on the Nintendo console, it ended on a pretty bright note. The developer confirmed that Techland has a surprise for Nintendo Switch owners which will be released before the year is out, although what that may be is still up in the air.
If rumors are true, however, it may not be up for debate and speculation any longer. As reported by Polish site Graczpospolita, who points to a source very close to Techland, it’s revealed that an upcoming Nintendo Switch port for Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is in the works for later this year.
As far as rumors go, this one may hold some water. Techland is based in Poland, and if any rumors should make their way to the internet, those that come from the developer’s home country should get attention. This news also comes a year after the rights to the franchise reverted back to the developer, following a dispute with original publisher Ubisoft. This dispute lead to the delisting of various Call of Juarez games on storefronts such as Steam, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. It would make sense to finally do something with the property, seeing as Techland has seen a victory in successfully keeping it.
Of course, this may also perfectly line up with that Switch surprise Rohleder has teased, so there’s that. There’s also a very decent, if not outright confirmed, chance of the title’s release being a remaster, available not only for the Switch but across other platforms as well. A remaster could also be a great way to gauge interest for a new Call of Juarez game; while the series is not that big compared to other IPs, it does have its share of loyal fans.
In any case, stay tuned for Techland’s showcase on the E3 stage for possible announcements, which you can also expect us to cover.
