In news that will surprise no one but the most hardcore of fans, Shenmue 3’s release date has been pushed back once again. This time, the delay is due to Shenmue 3 needing some more time to cook. I guess the fans can still wait for a few months, right?
Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue 3 has been delayed for the fourth time now. It was first announced for a late 2017 release, then an early 2018 release, then a 2019 release on August 29, which was again delayed and now the developer is saying that it will be released on November 19.
Suzuki and publisher Deep Silver made this announcement on their Kickstarter page. “Whilst almost ready, the game simply needs a little more refinement before being truly finished," the announcement reads. "We feel that the extra time we have will help us deliver the true Shenmue experience players around the world deserve!”
Shenmue 3 gathered a total of $7,179,510 from 81,087 backers since its introduction at E3 2015, which makes it the highest crowdfunded video game in kickstarter. The original goal for the creators was $2,000,000. Even Sony chipped in an unknown amount just for the game to be finished.
The story of the third installment will revolve around Ryo Hazuki coming to China in hopes to find the one who killed his father. In the middle of his travel, he meets Shenhua, and she now becomes his new companion. She told him about the prophecy of her village that their paths were meant to cross. Ryo and Shenhua go on a journey that will bring both of them deeper into enemy territory, delving into mysteries, and getting closer than ever to their true destinies. As you play, you find out the mystery of the mirrors, the connection of Ryo’s father to all of these events, and you will be able to see if Ryo can hunt down the cartel called Chi You Men to come face to face with Lan Di in an ultimate showdown.
Shenmue 3 will be released for PC and PlayStation 4. The digital version will be sold for $29 and the physical copy will be sold for $60. Fans have waited for years now, so a few more months will go by in a breeze all for the sake of a totally worth it game. Let’s stay tuned for more info about the game as the date draws near.
