Completing the Song of Storms questline in Breath of the Wild is all about character. One character, specifically. Players meet plenty of characters in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but one you’ll encounter repeatedly is Kass, a Rito who plays the accordion, and is the source of the Song of Storms sidequest. He will appear in various locations all over Hyrule in Breath of the Wild , each time with a new riddle contained in a part of a song passed to him over the years. Each riddle hints how to open a hidden shrine for Link to obtain Spirit Orbs and other rewards.
There are quite a few of these Shrine Quests involving Kass and the Song of Storms in Breath of the Wild, and there is no set order for doing them. Our guide will help you solving Kass’ riddles and complete the shrines that appear.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: The Crowned Beast Quest – Mezza Lo Shrine
The Mezza Lo Shrine is located to the southeast of Lanaryu Tower, in the north section of Rabia Plain. You’ll see Kass playing near the shrine’s activation pedestal. Speak to him and he’ll give you the following riddle.
“A beast that wears a crown of bone,
Prancing through the lush green.
Mount the beast upon its throne, For only then the shrine is seen”
To activate the panel, you’ll need to mount one of the buck deers in the area. Deer are harder to tame than horses, so be sure to either have the stealth armor equipped or use a level 2 stealth elixir to get the jump on the deer. Once you’ve tamed the deer, ride it over to the pedestal to activate it.
Shrine Solution:
Once inside, hit the crystal three times to align the rotating block with your platform. Drop a bomb next to the crystal, then move to the rotating block. Detonate the bomb and you will be taken to the shrine’s only treasure chest.
Lift the chest with Magnesis and drop down with it to the ground floor. Lift the chest again and move it on top of the floor switch in the fenced area. This raises the door leading to the altar.
Return to the crystal near the shrine entrance and hit it three more times to move the rotating block close to you. You then have to hit the crystal yet another three times with Link standing on the rotating block.
First, drop a bomb next to the crystal.
Second, cast Stasis on the laser beam emitter and immediately use Magnesis to move the metal cube out of the way. When Stasis ends, the laser will activate the crystal.
Third, fire a Fire Arrow at the crystal to activate it a second time.
Finally, detonate the bomb to activate it a third time.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: Qukah Nata Shrine
This shrine is to the east of Faron Tower, on the south shore of Calora Lake.
Kaas is up on a clearing you will need to either scale or use the Freeze Rune to climb the waterfall to reach. Once you speak to him, he’ll give the following riddle:
“When a lost hero calls down lightning from the sky
The monk responds from a giant mound on high”
To activate the Shrine panel, you’ll need to have Link wear all metallic equipment to attract lightning while he is standing in the middle of the mound. You’ll take damage, but this is the easiest way to complete this task.
Shrine Solution:
Once you enter the shrine, open the chest and head to the altar. Simple as that.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: Master of the Wind Quest – Shai Yota Shrine
This shrine is located in Horon Lagoon, to the southeast of Zora’s Domain.
Kass is on the west shore of Horon Lagoon. Speak to him and he’ll give you this riddle:
“He breaks the rocks that serve to bind
Above the tempestuous bay.
On wing of cloth and wood entwined,
He lands on the altar to open the way”
To activate this shrine, you’ll need to destroy four blocks of destructible rocks in the area. You can use bombs to destroy them but the intense winds may blow them off course. Use the wind and updraft to get close enough to the breakable rocks.
Once all rocks are destroyed, head to the top of the central structure and glide in the direction of the glowing dais.
Shrine Solution:
Open the chest and head to the altar. Easy peasy.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: Sign of the Shadow Quest – Sasa Kai Shrine
This shrine is a short distance to the southeast of Gerudo Tower. Kass is at the top of Gerudo Tower and he will give the following riddle:
“As light shines from the northwest skies,
From the tower’s shadow an arrow flies.
Pierce heaven’s light to reveal the prize.”
Stand on the dais between 3 and 4 p.m. The dais will glow when the time window is correct, and shoot an arrow at the top of Gerudo Tower (or above it) to activate the shrine.
Shrine Solution:
This is one of those shrines that has you face off against a Guardian Scout. Refer to our Guardians Guide on tips to defeat them.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: The Two Rings Quest – Sheem Dagoze Shrine
This shrine is located south of Ridgeland Tower. Kass is standing at the top of a small rock structure, just north of the bridge that connects the West Hyrule Plains to the Nima Plain. Speak to him and he’ll give you the following riddle:
“When a single arrow threads two rings,
the shrine will rise like birds on wings.”
To activate this shrine, you’ll need to fire a single arrow that goes through two rock holes. Head over to the west of the road, right in front of Kass.
Shrine Solution:
When you enter the shrine, stop on the left-hand floor switch and wait until the orb reaches the concave slot below.
Now step on the right-hand floor switch to release a second orb. As soon as it leave its original platform, sprint to the left switch and then to the right switch when the orb leaves the second platform until it reaches the slot. This will open a nearby door leading to the altar.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: Under a Red Moon Quest – Mijah Rokee Shrine
This shrine is located to the southwest of the Ridgeland Tower, on Washa’s Bluff. Kass is at the top of the tallest mushroom-shaped spire, speak to him and he’ll give you this riddle:
“When the moon bleeds and the fiends
are reborn / The noks will invite you
as they have sworn.
But first you must stand on the pedestal
bare / With nothing between you and
the night air.”
To activate this shrine, you’ll need to stand on the dais wearing no equipment (no armor, weapons, shields etc..) during a blood moon. You can learn about the blood moon in our handy guide.
Shrine Solution:
This shrine also forces a battle between Link and a Guardian Scout. Defeat it and you’ll complete the shrine.
Song of Storms Walkthrough: The Serpent’s Jaws Quest – Shae Katha Shrine
This shrine is located at the Spring of Courage, to the southwest of the Dueling Peaks. Kass will appear in the Pagos Woods to the west of the bridge that crosses the Floria River. Speak to him and he’ll give you this riddle:
“Where the forest dragon splays its jaws,
A shrine sleeps with noble cause.”
To activate this shrine, you’ll need to pray to the statue in the Spring of Courage. The statue will ask you for an offering, one of Farosh’s scales. Farosh is one of the dragons found in Hyrule, you can refer to our Dragons Guide for more info about where to find it and how to obtain its scales.
Shrine Solution:
Another shrine where you have to just open the chest in the middle of the room and head to the altar.
Once you’ve completed all of these quests, Kass will reward you with the location of a treasure chest that holds 300 rupees.
