The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a survival game and like many games of that genre, players will need to find ways to maximize their health. Finding heart containers is the way to do it.
Stamina is also a big part of Link’s journey through Hyrule and that can also be increased in a similar manner to his heart containers. The stamina wheel is very important in Breath of the Wild, and you can refer to our Beginner’s Guide for information on what stamina allows Link to do.
But if you want to increase both your max health and stamina, there are a number of ways to do so in Breath of the Wild.
SPOILER ALERT! The Following may spoil some events of the Breath of the Wild story. If you don’t want to know what happens, turn back now.
Heart containers can be gained by defeating Dungeon Bosses during the main Breath of the Wild story. Once they are defeated, you’ll be gifted a heart container. But with only four dungeons to gain hearts from, the more efficient way to receive hearts and stamina is by completing Shrine puzzles.
Shrines are scattered throughout Hyrule, Entering one not only gives you a new fast travel point, but a puzzle to solve. In these puzzles, there are chests filled with rare material, weapons and equipment.
When you complete a Shrine puzzle you’ll be gifted a Spirit Orb. Once you have four, you can trade them in for either a heart container or an increase to your stamina wheel. Players can trade their Spirit Orbs to Goddess Statues.
GODDESS STATUE LOCATIONS
There are a few Goddess Statues around Hyrule and they allow Link to trade in his Spirit Orbs. Once you find a Goddess Statue, Link can go up to it and Pray onto the Goddess. The Goddess’ spirit will ask Link whether he wants a heart container or more stamina.
Make your choice and you exchange four Spirit Orbs for it.
The Goddess Statue locations are not as apparent as other places, but the one in Kakariko Village is the easiest to get to, especially after unlocking the Shrine nearby so you can fast travel to it.
Here’s a list of the Goddess Statues in Breath of the Wild (note: this list is still being compiled)
- Temple of Time
- Kakariko Village
- Island on Lake Akkala
- Find Dah Hesho Shrine and you can paraglide right to it.
