This one’s for the Trekkies. The new Star Trek Beyond trailer is here and it’s much, much better than the overly-stylized, Beastie Boys-playing teaser that debuted back in December. Not that there’s anything wrong with the Beastie Boys, but like, ya know -- Star Trek should be a classy affair. The thinking man’s Star Wars. Anyways, check out the second trailer for Star Trek Beyond, below:
As you can see, trailer No. 2 is a massive improvement over its predecessor. Gone are the cheesy one-liners and in are some heart-pounding action sequences juxtaposed with thought-provoking dialogue (“My dad joined Starfleet because he believed in it; I joined on a dare”).
The latest trailer for the third installment premiered yesterday at a fan event held in Paramount Pictures’ studio lot. Simon Pegg, who co-wrote Star Trek Beyond’s script in addition to starring as Scotty, teased the trailer’s arrival with a photo of his character’s alien assistant, Keenser.
So far, Star Trek Beyond’s official synopsis merely reads: “Stranded on a hostile planet, Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the Enterprise crew face an alien threat.”
Whatever is going down, it looks pretty serious. The Enterprise damn near gets torn to shreds in the trailer. Pine, Quinto and Pegg are joined by Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba, who stars as the film’s principal antagonist, Krall.
Star Trek Beyond is helmed by Fast and the Furious director Justin Lin and arrives in theaters July 22. What are you thoughts on the new trailer? Sound off in the comments below!
