Star Wars fans woke up to some bad news this morning as it was revealed that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – the first spin-off anthology film from Disney – displeased execs so much that significant reshoots have been ordered to salvage the upcoming film. Regardless of whether the reaction was justified or overblown, the damage has been done and it will take some solid marketing to win back the public’s interest. If you suddenly yourself in the camp of uncertainty, have no fear – there’s always the next one. Disney’s next Star Wars anthology, the Han Solo story, begins production in January.
The news comes by way of Star Wars News Net, who report that famed Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan told an audience at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival that filming begins next year in London. An official title has yet to be revealed, but the Han Solo solo film (ha!) will shoot at Pinewood Studios under watch of directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Kasdan has enjoyed his experience working with the directors of The LEGO Movie and the Jump Street franchise, calling the pair “great, funny and imaginative.” Together, along with Kasdan’s son, Jon, who co-wrote the script, the filmmakers have been collaborating to bring Han Solo’s origin story to life.
Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich has officially been cast as the eponymous character, though plot details remain under wraps. We’ll find out for certain when the Han Solo movie arrives in theaters May 25, 2018.
