With all the tense rumors circulating around Star Wars: Rogue One’s reshoots, it’s nice to get back to some innocent character speculation. Two of the most anticipated characters in Rogue One are played by a pair of actors with a knack for portraying villains. Former Bond archenemy Mads Mikkelsen features in a prominent role alongside Forest Whitaker, who won an Academy Award for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland. If the latest gossip is to be believed, their character's identities in Star Wars: Rogue One may have recently leaked.
According to Making Star Wars, Mikkelsen’s character, who reportedly is the father of Rogue One’s protagonist, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), goes by the name of Galen. This was previously reported on, but MSW adds fuel to the fire by adding “we saw some things that indicated his name truly is ‘Galen’ [this past weekend].” The post is light on what those “things” exactly were, but MSW has developed a reputation for being fairly reliable when it comes to Star Wars leaks.
The real news, however, is the potential discovery of Forest Whitaker’s character name, which MSW claims is “Castro.” Again, there is little evidence to back this up, but the site does comment on Whitaker’s character code name, “Eel Commander,” which MSW learned through “various factions” attached to production.
These Rogue One characters names have yet to be confirmed, but with more details (and possibly a second trailer?!) on the way at July’s Star Wars Celebration Europe, the true identities could be revealed soon enough. Stay tuned for updates.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters Dec. 16.
