Take it as publicity boasting if you like, but Adam Driver - who plays the villainous Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens - has gone on record to say that Star Wars: Episode 8 is going to be “really great.” At least, the script certainly is, and the Star Wars and Girls star also spoke very highly of his new director, Rian Johnson. Overall, it sounds like the 32-year-old actor has lots of faith in the upcoming installment of the Skywalker saga.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Driver first touched on his work experience following Star Wars’ directorial shift. Previously, he worked with J.J. Abrams in The Force Awakens, and now Driver is adjusting to command under Johnson for Episode 8.
“Their temperaments are different,” Driver told EW. “I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. There’s a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language.” Driver then continued with the kicker quote:
“I think it’s more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own]. I can’t wait to get on set, just because he’s so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. The script they’ve come up with is really great.”
Now, a script isn’t a completed movie, but it’s a detailed blueprint, and if Driver is speaking highly of the writing plus Johnson’s directing, we should be in for a treat with Star Wars: Episode 8. Plus, Driver doesn’t seem like the type to sugarcoat mediocre work. He’s a straight shooter and would probably avoid the question altogether if he didn’t truly believe it was great.
Daisy Ridley, who stars as The Force Awakens’ protagonist - Rey, also praised Episode 8’s script. Her and Driver’s comments are certainly an encouraging sign for Star Wars fans. Now hopefully we get that Rogue One trailer soon!
Star Wars: Episode 8 arrives in theaters Dec. 15, 2017.
