The reveal of Volcanion back in December marked the focus of the next Pokémon movie , but what fans didn’t expect was the introduction of the first Gen 7 Pokémon, Magearna, and how the “man-made” ‘mon would factor into the film.
Previous plot details revealed that Volcanion and Ash Ketchum would be tied together as the fire/water type Pokémon went through its angsty, “hate humans” phase.
Not much in terms of footage has been shown until now, when the Pokémon Company Japan --via Anime News Network -- released the first trailer for Pokémon the Movie XY &Z: Volcanion and the Tricky Magearna.
There’s a lot going on in that trailer, including showing how Volcanion and Ash get stuck together. We also see the main antagonist using a bunch of Mega Evolution Pokémon against Ash and the gang.
We even get a glimpse of Magearna animated for the first time, and it doesn’t look very friendly.
Volcanion And The Tricky Magearna is set to release in Japan on July, 16 with a Western release likely later in the year.

In this latest Pokémon full-length feature film, a mysterious force binds Ash to the Mythical Pokémon Volcanion when it falls from the sky.
