The Destiny 2 release date has been delayed, for reasons that aren’t quite clear, according to a new report from Kotaku.The long-awaited sequel was slated to be released in September 2016.
Buried in a lengthy new column about Destiny’s recent stagnancy, Kotaku reporter Jason Schreier claims “higher-ups at Bungie” have decided to push back the Destiny 2 release date. The game hasn’t officially been announced, and is only semi-public knowledge because of a 2012 contract leak, but this wouldn’t be the first time Schreier broke major news about Destiny. There’s no word on when fans can expect a Destiny 2 release date to be confirmed, or why management decided to push the game back, but the report doesn’t paint an especially bright future for Destiny in the coming year.
With many fans upset by the lack of substantial content we’ve seen for Destiny (myself included) in the months following the release of The Taken King, many players were undoubtedly holding out hope for a major expansion of the game’s universe this fall. Now, fans have to wonder just how long it might be before we get our first look at the next major entry in the Destiny franchise. Worse, we have to wonder if Destiny 2 is about to become the first AAA game of 2016 to get pushed to 2017. And, correct us if we’re wrong, but January just seems a bit too early to be asking these questions.
