Yo-Kai Watch releases on Nov. 6 and there’s a lot of mystery surrounding the game that is being pegged as the next Pokémon franchise .
Those who are following the game closely know that you’ll be on a journey to “befriend” over 200 different Yo-kai as you play your way through the story. But there are two features in Yo-Kai Watch that you may not know and that is its Streetpass function and the Yo-Kai Cam feature and both are very helpful in “befriending” ‘em all.
The Yo-Kai Cam feature allows for pictures to be taken of people using your Nintendo 3DS camera. Once you put someone’s face inside the given oval and wait for the OK, you can take a picture and see which Yo-kai is inspiriting them.
This is great for discovering new Yo-kai for your Medallium that are not found in the early stages of the game -- we’ll get into what the Medallium is and what it’s purpose is later -- and adding their medals to it.
However, this does not mean you’ve befriended the Yo-kai that appears. This just adds them to your book, sort of like how seeing a Pokémon is not the same as catching them.
It also seems to be random because taking pictures of the same person gave different Yo-kai.
You’ll also get rewards for finding Yo-kai using the Yo-Kai Cam. You’ll get a reward for the first time seeing one and another for capturing three Yo-kai on your camera. All rewards can be picked up at the post office in-game.
Yo-Kai Watch’s StreetPass function is another way to fill up your Medallium and even befriend certain Yo-kai.
Once you get to travel to the Wayfarer Manor in Springdale Heights. You’ll talk to the owner who will give you the Manor for yourself and this is where you will use the Streetpass.
Wandering Yo-kai are those that visit Springdale via the StreetPass. Once you pass someone else who has their StreetPass activated, the wandering Yo-kai will appear here. If you talk to the Yo-kai you may get a gift but beware they may also want to fight you.
There are occasions where a wandering Yo-kai will befriend you after a battle. This excludes, however, rare, legend or S-rank Yo-kai.
So be sure to pass as many StreetPassers as possible to get some great items, experience via battle and more Yo-kai to befriend.
