With Pokémon Go taking over everyone’s lives, what is next for the smash mobile game? Developer Niantic spoke with both Game Informer and Business Insider about the immediate success of the app and what players should expect in the future, including trading.
Niantic Labs’ CEO John Hanke confirmed trading was in the near future for Pokémon Go.
"It's kind of a core element," Hanke told Business Insider of the feature. Hanke didn’t go into too much detail about trading but teased that it will tie into the app’s ability to bring players together.
Sounds like trading in Pokémon Go will be a local affair as opposed to an online database like the GTS in the main Pokémon games.
“In terms of there being a silver or a ruby red, or whatever, our current focus is just on enhancing and improving Pokémon Go, ” Hanke told Game Informer when asked about the roadmap for the app. “It is an MMO, so it is something we’re committed to regular updates and that. There will be new clients and server iterations pushed bi-weekly.”
Some of these updates will include improvements to the servers, enhancements to Augmented Reality (which allows the Pokémon to appear in our world), a global leadership scoreboard and more.
Pokémon Go includes the catching and battling (to a small degree) of the main Pokémon games but the trading aspect has been noticeably absent, considering it was shown during the announcement.
