A new set of screenshots for The Surge, the futuristic action-RPG currently in development at Deck 13, have been released by the development team. It’s a small set of images, just three new screens, but they offer our first look at some of the mini-bosses we’ll encounter in The Surge.
Details on the plot of The Surge remain scarce. But the new screenshots from Deck 13 Interactive and Focus Home Interactive did at least come with brief descriptions of the enemies featured in the images. The first features robotic dogs manufactured by CREO, the industrial research and development company filling the role of antagonistic faction in The Surge, with small weak points in their otherwise heavily-armored frames.
The second image introduces fans to the Echelon 9 security squad, a team of specially-trained CREO guards sporting GOLIATH-class armor and “anti-personnel combat gear.” Echelon 9 doesn’t have any sort of legal authority, since they’re CREO’s internal security apparatus; however, players can probably expect to encounter them pretty frequently during The Surge.
The final image also happens to feature one of the largest adversaries we’ve seen since The Surge was announced in August 2015. According to Deck 13, the Smelter is “designed to be impervious to tampering, making it extremely difficult to shut down.” Players will have to contend with sweltering temperatures and “ore-smashing gripper teeth” to take down the mechanical monstrosity, which will only be vulnerable while venting coolant.
