ChinaJoy 2019 begins today, and with it comes a whole host of titles from China-based developers as the country’s biggest gaming expo runs the whole weekend. There are tons of games that are featured, so be sure to stick around for our coverage of everything announced at this event, especially seeing as China is starting to gain footing in video game development – and that means more great games for everyone.
Chinese developer Vanimals has released an announcement for their upcoming survival title Undying, which is also receiving quite the attention at ChinaJoy this year. In addition to the earlier announced PC version, which will be out via Steam Early Access in Q1 2020, the developer also announced that a PlayStation 4 version is also in the works. Check out a trailer for Undying below and see what makes it stand out from the myriad of other survival titles available now.
The game looks like it will be taking a more emotional and significantly more dramatic approach to survival. Set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse, Undying sees you play as Anling, a mother who’s travelling the desolate and dangerous landscape with her young son Cody. Unfortunately for the duo, Anling gets bitten, and her days are numbered. This turns their journey into a fight for survival, as Anling now has a limited amount of time to not only ensure both of their survival, but also teach Cody the necessary skills to survive after she turns.
It’s an extremely interesting concept, and one that I look forward to seeing more of. Cody will ultimately learn from what you are doing, so this incentivizes you to not just scavenge in order to survive, but to also teach Cody various skills he needs once he’s left to fend for himself alone. In the end, Undying also becomes this management title, where you manage your time looking for resources or enhancing Cody’s skill set.
Undying will be released for PC via Steam Early Access in Q1 2020, with a final release alongside the PS4 version yet to be announced.
ChinaJoy 2019 will run from August 2 to August 5. Expect more coverage from us as soon as any news is announced.
