Two more beloved characters have joined the Tekken 7: Fated Retribution roster, pushing the current list of confirmed combatants to a whopping three dozen fighters. The new brawlers arrived alongside details on the improved online tournament support we’ll see in Tekken 7.
If you’re wondering how the folks at Bandai Namco justify having two large bears on the Tekken 7 roster, you should know the backgrounds for each fighter are just as ridiculous as their presence. Kuma is the personal pet (and bodyguard) of Heihachi Mishima, who returns to the role of primary antagonist in Tekken 7, while Panda fills a similar (albeit, significantly less aggressive) role for Ling Xiaoyu. The press release announcing the game’s latest combatants also notes that Kuma has an unrequited crush on Panda, but we can only hope the Tekken 7 campaign won’t devote much time to a “will they or won’t they” romance angle between two bears.
This week’s Tekken 7 update also included new information on the improved online tournament support we’ll see in the fighting game when it hits North American retailers next year. According to Bandai Namco, the next addition to the Tekken franchise will allow players to create and join new tournaments featuring up to eight participants. Tournament organizers will be able to decide whether the tournament is single or double elimination, whether or not spectating is allowed and the tournament creator can even choose to password-protect the competition.
