A pair of new fighters have been confirmed for the Tekken 7 roster, courtesy of a new press release from Bandai Namco. The game’s publisher also offered fans some new information about the Story Mode we’ll see in Tekken 7 when it hits PC and consoles in 2017.
According to Bandai Namco, Heihachi Mishima’s adopted son, Lee Chaolan, will return to the roster when Tekken 7: Fated Retribution debuts next year. For those who aren’t familiar, Chaolan was taken in by the Mishima family because Heihachi presumed competition would encourage his own son, Kazuya, to try harder. Eventually, Chaolan was forced from the family business but the fighter went on to create his own tech company, Violet Systems, and adopted the moniker Violet to continue competing in the King of Iron Fist tournament.
It’s not clear what role Lee will play in the Tekken 7 story, but Wednesday’s press release says Chaolan’s covert support of Lars Alexandersson , a Tekken Force commander who once led a coup against Heihachi, was “only the beginning of what he had in store for the Mishimas.”
In addition the new fighters, Bandai Namco revealed a bit of new information about the Story mode we’ll see in Tekken 7 . As expected, the next entry in the Tekken franchise will focus primarily on the Mishima family and the ongoing struggle between Heihachi and Kazuya. But theirs won’t be the only story told in Tekken 7 . The fighting game will also provide story arcs for a variety of other characters, including newcomer Claudio Serafino.
Apparently, Serafino is the leader of a secretive group of exorcists known as the Archers of Sirius, who’ve only recently become public knowledge. At some point, Heihachi and Mishimi Zaibatsu tried (unsuccessfully) to recruit the Archers. Now Claudio is conducting his own investigation to find out why the eldest Mishima was interested in the group’s services. And we can only assume the results of that investigation will be laid out in Tekken 7.
Tekken 7 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game is expected to debut in early 2017.
