Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is arriving on March 26 to next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Nintendo Switch players, however, may have to wait a bit more but rest assured that the release is happening this year.
A Little Help
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is a remaster of the first two games of the franchise. It has since become the fastest game in the series to sell 1 million units.
The game was released in September 2020 for PC and current-gen consoles. What would be surprising to know is that the move to offer a version for next-gen consoles was made possible with the help of Crash Bandicoot . That’s because Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is arriving on next-gen consoles earlier, on March 12. Even before that, some Bandicoot -branded items had made appearances in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, which resulted in playful banter over Twitter for the two video game icons.
Upgraded Version
For the next-gen console versions, in particular, players can expect exciting upgrades like 120 FPS at 1080P, native 4K at 60 FPS, and spatial audio, among many others.
These new features should give players a better experience with sharper dynamic shadows, reflections and lens flares, and even improved skater textures.
Players who already have a digital copy of the game can upgrade with the Cross-Gen Deluxe Bundle, priced at $10. In addition to the enhanced features, the bundle also offers:
- Secret skater Ripper (a.k.a. the infamous Powell-Peralta mascot)
- Retro gear for Create-A-Skater mode
- Retro skins for Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, and Rodney Mullen
Meanwhile, players who have the Digital Deluxe Version for current-gen consoles can upgrade to the next-gen version for free.
As a remastered version, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 give players access to many legends available in the original games like Tony Hawk (of course!), Steve Caballero, and Bob Burnquist, among many others. It even features many of the current top pros like Nyjah Huston, Lizzie Armanto, and Tyshawn Jones.
During its official launch, Tony Hawk himself was grateful for the revival of the series as it manages to meet the expectations of long-time fans while also inviting new players to try it out. Read more about the launch here.
