With Captain America: Civil War on the horizon, some Marvel fans are racing to catch up to the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most rewarding but also frustrating aspect of Marvel’s continuous storylines is that they are interspersed throughout multiple films. So while you can understand the gist of the plot and its characters, particular allusions, easter eggs and foreshadowing might not be picked up. How can you solve that before Civil War hits theaters Friday? Spend a day at the theater watching five straight Captain America movies in a row.
Disney has announced the Ultimate Captain America Marathon, which will take place at select theaters around the country on Thursday, May 5. The special feature doesn’t just feature Captain America Movies ( Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: Winter Soldier ), but also includes The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron in there for good measure. The screening will close out with the film we’ve all been waiting for – Captain America: Civil War . The best part? You can see all fives of these films for just 35 bucks!
Of course the one downside of the marathon is having to, well… marathon. We’re talking about 12 hours of continuous Marvel action with just a few breaks in between. Better bring a pillow to the theater with you. ComingSoon.net says that the marathon will start earily in the morning, so it’s best to get a good night’s sleep in preparation as well.
Realistically, don’t expect many moviegoers to take Disney up in the offer, but you have to admit the idea is pretty cool. A few Marvel superfans will definitely spend the day at the theater and probably won’t regret it either. While these movies may not be meant to be consumed in one viewing, the MCU is supposed to incorporate non-traditional storylines and it’s important to be up to date if possible.
For everyone else who has a life, Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters May 6.
