The Walking Dead Season 8 marks 100 episodes for the series. To celebrate the milestone, showrunner Scott Gimple promised to kick off the season with an epic premiere featuring the baddie you love to hate, Negan. At this year’s New York Comic Con, The Walking Dead cast members Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Tom Payne, Katelyn Nacon and Austin Amelio were excited to tease the big comeback.
In the finale of Season 7, Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom and a few members of the Oceanside community declared war when a visit with Negan quickly went south. After they have combined forces to take down the Sanctuary, Negan went to Alexandria to convince Rick to stop disobeying him and brought Sasha, who tried and failed to assassinate him, back in a coffin as a symbol of his power.
But before Sasha volunteered to crawl into the coffin, Eugene gave her a deadly pill to end her life. She intended to swallow the pill in hopes her walker body would attack Negan when he opened the casket. Sadly, Sasha’s sacrifice only caused more chaos for Rick.
Still, there’s more story to come in The Walking Dead Season 8. The show’s cast members were in attendance at New York Comic Con Panel at Madison Square Garden this year. Check out what they had to say below:
First, the biggest takeaway of the panel came from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, who confirmed the show will feature a Fear the Walking Dead crossover. Kirkman was vague, but mentioned a character from one of the shows will appear in the other. Unfortunately, we don't know whether it will be a character from Fear walking into the main show or vice versa, just that it’ll happen.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan on Negan:
“I think he’s funny. He brings a certain humor. And a sexy ass...He brings a little special spice.”
“This year we get to some slices of Negan’s past.”
Melissa McBride on Carol fighting:
“Yes. But that doesn’t mean she’s not going to be baking something…”
Hardwick to Melissa, “Carol’s edibles.”
“So many wonderland qualities about Carol. She’s got good cookies. She’s capable. She cares. I would certainly want her on my team...She’s also caring less and less of what everyone thinks.”
Lennie James on Morgan:
“Morgan’s stuck. He’s stuck because he knows what he has to do...but he doesn’t want to do it because it’ll go against his code. He needs to go to war to find peace.”
“Morgan’s argument isn’t about survival. It’s about how we live.”
Norman on Daryl’s psyche:
“The bands back together. This season is two big teams against each other...He wants revenge.”
The Walking Dead Season 8 premieres Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
