Let’s just get the big spoiler out of the way. The Walking Dead Season 6 episode 15 ended with Daryl Dixon likely getting shot in the shoulder, followed by a quick cut to a black screen. You hear Dwight say, “You’ll be alright.” Needless to say, everyone freaked out on social media way too soon. Daryl’s alive, for now, but that doesn’t mean he’ll make past this season’s finale.
Getting shot in The Walking Dead isn’t an automatic death sentence. We’ve seen Carl get shot twice and he’s still around to babysit Judith. Eugene was shot in the stomach and he’s fine. Dwight wants to get into Alexandria, and he needs information to get in; that’s where Daryl, Rosita, Michonne and Glenn come in. The Walking Dead producer Denise Huth confirmed during an appearance on Talking Dead that Daryl’s injury wasn’t fatal. Dwight likely wounded Daryl to keep him from trying to escape. Daryl’s a tough guy; it’ll take more than a bullet to the shoulder to stop him.
What could this mean for The Walking Dead Season 6 finale? Daryl might sacrifice himself for the group; he feels guilty for letting Dwight live after it was his crossbow that killed Denise. At this point, Daryl doesn’t trust his own judgement, and he’s getting sloppy with his actions. He let himself get caught off guard by the Saviors three times now: once when he first met Dwight, the second when they were ambushed by Denise and the third when he tried to save Michonne and Glenn. His luck is running out, and it would be a bigger shocker if Daryl survives an encounter with Negan. We got a small glimpse of Lucille, we know Negan’s coming.
