Andrew Lincoln has fallen in love with Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, like the rest of us comic book fans. Seriously, The Walking Dead couldn’t have cast a better actor to play the role.
Lincoln praised Morgan’s work on the show during an interview with Entertainment Weekly . Negan is a brutal character, but he’s not one-dimensional. Morgan understands Negan is a unique kind of villain and embraces the character’s madness while keeping him grounded.
“It’s such a great part and it’s so beautifully written,” Lincoln told EW , referring to Negan. “And he’s such an important part of the show, this character, that we needed an actor that could step up and take the bull by the horns and drag it forward, and make it his own. And certainly, that’s what we have this season.”
Lincoln added, “I think everybody got a sense of what this actor is capable of in the last episode...But rest assured that that’s really just the beginning of what Jeffrey is creating. It’s very impressive and it’s great fun to work with him.”
Morgan is too charming. The thing about Negan that makes him special is you really never know what his endgame is. You think Negan enjoys having power over people, but that’s not necessarily the case. Negan lives by his own rules, his own morals, his own standards, and nothing will change that.
Something fans can look forward to in future episodes of The Walking Dead is the way Negan treats people he respects versus those he doesn’t. Let’s be clear, you want to be on Negan’s good side at all times, but there are instances where the villain will openly talk about the way he sees life with other characters. You’ll see a different side to Negan when he’s talking to other Saviors like Dwight versus characters like Carl.
