Morgan might’ve saved Carol’s life, but it doesn’t mean she wants to be saved. There will be a lot of changes in The Walking Dead Season 7 and Carol’s “Scarol” persona may be gone forever.
McBride recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about where we’ll see her character next in The Walking Dead Season 7. McBride explained Carol might physically recover in The Kingdom, but it doesn’t mean she’ll be in a better mental space .
“Just because Morgan carried out that action, I don’t know if that’s going to change Carol’s mind about how she feels herself in this world,” McBride said. “I mean, it’s an inevitability. How can she live with what’s inevitable, is the problem. There’s really no getting around it and she knows that, and now Morgan realizes that, but that doesn’t change Carol’s mind about herself in this world. Or does it?”
Morgan is trying everything he can to make Carol see life is still worth living. Morgan recognized the darkness in Carol because it’s so similar to what he experienced shortly after the death of his wife and son. Morgan was ready to kill everything he encountered. It wasn’t until Morgan met Eastman that he realized good people still exist even if they’ve done bad things.
However, Carol might be too far gone at this point to believe in Morgan’s Jedi ways. Carol believes her desire to protect the people she loves will never go away. She believes by leaving Alexandria and being on her own she can live a more peaceful life with less killing. But as we saw in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale, Carol will still kill people if it means she’ll survive. She can’t stop herself when she’s cornered, which is why she wants to be alone.
It’s also possible the show might take Carol’s character in her comic book direction. We won’t spoil the scene for you, but Carol goes through a similar depression in the comics. Carol ends up losing her desire to live and it doesn’t end well for the character. Click here to learn more about the Carol scene from The Walking Dead comics.
