We’ve seen very little of Carol in T he Walking Dead Season 7, so it’s easy to forget she’s going through an emotionally heavy time in her life post-apocalypse. We might see Carol reunite with Rick’s crew, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready for war.
[Warning: The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers ahead.]
Before we dive into Carol’s story, let’s recap. Carol ran away from Alexandria towards the end of The Walking Dead Season 6. When Carol arrived to Alexandria, it gave her an opportunity to stop and think about everything that happened to her. Carol started keeping track of the people she killed in a notebook and it began to weigh on her psyche.
Carol knew the longer she stayed in Alexandria, the more people she’d have to kill. She didn’t want to live that life anymore, so she decided to leave Alexandria. This was when she believe the threat of Negan was over. It’s only a matter of time before Rick’s group finds Carol and asks her to fight. She might feel it’s her responsibility to help the group, but that doesn’t mean she’ll make it to war.
Carol isn’t the same person anymore. She’s more sensitive to killing and is suffering from PTSD. She doesn’t know how to live and not kill people, which deeply affects her. Unfortunately, Carol might not have the strength left to fight.
In the comics, a younger version of Carol goes through a similar breakdown for different reasons. Carol becomes deeply depressed and decides to end her life. She ties a walker to a pole and lets it eat her neck. We wouldn’t be surprised if TV version of Carol also tries to end her life. TV Carol seems okay with being alone, but she’s also drawn to people. She connects with Morgan and Ezekiel, even though she begs them to leave her be.
