There’s something about Eugene that makes us feel sad yet frustrated in the latest The Walking Dead Season 7 clip. We know he’s safe for now, but damn, we wish he’d stand up for himself just a bit more.
Negan waves Lucille around in Eugene’s face in the latest teaser and it’s as painful as you’d expect it to be.
"Well, Eugene, I know you remember Lucille," Negan said, then points to Lucille’s bullet wound. "Now under normal circumstances, I'd be showing you that real close over and over again. But, Eugene, all I really wanna know is if you are a smarty pants."
Stop crying Eugene! That sad puppy act won’t work with Negan. Or maybe it will. Negan knows how to read a room. You can watch the clip in the video below.
The most frustrating part of Eugene’s story is that he was learning how to be strong. He was taking what Abraham and the others were trying to teach him about fighting very seriously. Eugene was starting to come into his own. Then Abraham dies and he reverts to Eugene the Cowardly Lion.
We honestly don’t think Eugene is leaving Negan and the Sanctuary. Unlike Daryl, Eugene wouldn’t be able to survive in the shadows. He’d be too scared about being caught. Who knows? Maybe Eugene will see himself as a better fit in Negan’s crew, or perhaps Eugene needs someone like Negan to survive.
What we do know is Eugene is smart and capable of creating weapons that could destroy Alexandria, even if that’s not his intention. Rick needs to do everything he can to get Eugene back before Negan warps his mind.
