The original Watch Dogs is by far my favorite entry in the Watch Dogs series. Originally released in 2014 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Watch Dogs was a breath of fresh air to those who wanted to feel like a hacker, with the ability to control the city and its infrastructure at players' fingertips. Although the game brought forward an interesting concept to the open-world genre, it wasn't a smooth release. The original release of Watch Dogs had a noticeable visual downgrade from what was shown at that year's E3, and it was poorly optimized. Nevertheless, in my experience, it was a very enjoyable game to play.
Now, according to the official ESRB website, Watch Dogs Complete Edition could be launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X as well. This means that the game will be receiving significant visual upgrades and performance boosts. The complete edition of Watch Dogs comes with both the base game and the post-game Bad Blood DLC, other smaller DLC, weapons, and cosmetics.
While the ESRB page suggests that Watch Dogs Complete Edition could be coming to the next-gen platforms, Ubisoft itself hasn't offered any official confirmation on the matter. Personally, I am hoping that Watch Dogs arrives on next-gen platforms and looks and plays better than it did on the PS4 and Xbox One.
One of the best aspects of Watch Dogs was its gritty atmosphere and protagonist Aiden Pearce's personality that meshed well together. Set in Chicago, Watch Dogs tells a story in which Aiden Pearce's niece gets killed in a murder attempt on Pearce. Pearce then sets off on a quest to avenge his niece, but he soon discovers that underneath the technologically advanced city of Chicago, shady businesses run amuck. Pearce then steps up to become a vigilante to put an end to these notoriously illegal activities and he uses his hacking skills to both save the city of Chicago and avenge his niece.
Watch Dogs is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. According to the ESRB rating, the game could also be launching on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
