Episode 12 ended with the return of Katie Bryce, who was Derek and Meredith’s first patient together. Previously, she had a brain aneurysm, which Derek was able to repair. This time, she has a massive brain tumor, which Amelia was able to repair. After surviving her surgery, Katie asks Meredith what happened to the other Dr. Shepherd, and she cannot admit that Derek is dead.
Meanwhile, Maggie and Dr. DeLuca are still canoodling around the hospital, but now Richard knows about their relationship. Richard starts coming down on DeLuca, giving him unsavory assignments at the hospital. At first DeLuca thinks that Richard is acting as a mentor, but he soon realizes why Richard has taken such an interest in him when Maggie admits that Richard is her father. Eventually, Richard promises Maggie he will go easy on DeLuca.
April and Jackson are back at the hospital after their divorce is finalized, but she has yet to reveal her pregnancy. Arizona urges her to do so, but April fears using her pregnancy as a way to get Jackson back. Alex, who is a pediatric surgeon, quickly figures out April is pregnant and also recommends that she tell Jackson before he also figures it out himself.
Amelia and Owen decide to forget their tumultuous past and officially rekindle their relationship.
In episode 13, Bailey, Callie, Jackson, Jo and Meredith are at a military hospital, where a still unseen patient named Sgt. Carson needs surgery. The doctors from Grey-Sloan have been called in to do a risky experimental procedure on the patient and his military doctor, Major Eric Thorpe, is not happy. He condescendingly calls them the “dream team,” but Callie stands up for the doctors, telling Thorpe they that she and her team are miracle workers. However, in a promo for the episode, we later see that Callie worrying about completing the surgery successfully.
While prepping for the surgery, another doctor at the military hospital gets flirty with Jackson. Jackson is oblivious, but Jo points out the interaction.
Meanwhile, back at Seattle Grace, DeLuca wants to take he and Maggie’s relationship public. Cheerleader patients are causing trouble in the emergency room.
