Westworld director Jonathan Nolan dodges a fan’s question at the show’s San Diego Comic Con panel in a great way.
The Westworld panel included cast members Evan Rachel Woods, James Marsden, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Luke Hemsworth, Angela Sarafyan, Jimmi Simpson, Shannon Woodward, Ben Barnes, Rodrigo Santoro, Simon Quarterman and Tessa Thompson. Writer Lisa Joy was also in attendance and answering questions about the show’s creation.
The moderator opened the show floor to to questions regarding show. One fan asked if the Samurais shown at the end of Westworld would pop up again in the show’s second season. Hey, the guy asked what everyone was thinking, even though he knew it would be highly unlikely he’d get a straightforward response.
That’s when Nolan swooped in with the perfect answer. Nolan’s response, “Doesn’t look like anything to me.
The Hall H crowd laughed along with the cast. If you need a refresher, the Westworld robots have blind spots in their code. If someone didn’t program the robot to see something, they’re automatic response will be, “Doesn’t look like anything to me.” It was Nolan’s coy way of avoiding the question.
In all fairness, Nolan admitted to having issues with grasping reality stemming from his work on Westworld. He feels like sometimes he’s stuck in an odd simulation, and gave a hilarious example of how crazy the life can get.
“My perception of reality has shifted significantly since I started doing this,” Nolan said. “I’m convinced we must be in a simulation of some kind. I just did a tequila shot with Ed Harris in a parking garage at Comic-Con.”
Woods, who plays Dolores on the show, also shared how her life has changed since joining the Westworld production. She talked about leaving the set each day with a smile on her face despite the physical toll it takes on her.
“I would drive home covered in bruises and blood and be happy because it was amazing and it was for something that meant something,” Woods told the crowd. Woods later added the moment where she signed on to something special was when she was in Target and somebody yelled out, “Freeze all motor functions!”
Westworld Season 2 premieres on HBO some time in 2018.
