It doesn’t come as a surprise Pornhub’s traffic dipped 10 percent the day Fallout 4 released. However, the results of the porn website’s latest video game study are a bit more interesting. Venture Beat put in a request asking Pornhub to look into Minecraft trends. Minecraft gamers have apparently developed a really strange emotional attachment to the popular cross-platform game because since Jan. 2014, searches for Minecraft have increased by 326 percent.
108 percent of that growth happened in 2015. Pornhub Insights cites two particular events which may be responsible for the search growth. Remember that fake, malware ridden version of Minecraft over 3 million people downloaded in May 2015? Pornhub reports that resulted in a 291 percent increase in searches. Just a month later a new version of Minecraft featuring the Microsoft HoloLens was debuted at the E3 Expo. This event saw a 154 percent increase in searches. “Clearly, this had Minecraft fans excited in anticipation,” Pornhub writes in their blog post.
So, what are Minecraft gamers searching for on Pornhub?
‘Minecraft,’ ‘Minecraft Porn,’ ‘Minecraft Hentai’ and ‘Minecraft Sex’ are the top searches. But the bottom of the list is more intriguing. ‘Minecraft Hard Drilling,’ ‘Minecraft Masterbating,’ (yes, spelt incorrectly) ‘Trolled Hard Minecraft,’ and ‘Minecraft True Love’ are a bit more ‘niche.’
To give users the benefit of the doubt, researchers double checked to make sure the video game porn seekers weren’t mistaking the search bar for Google. Pornhub's team went back to see what gamers searched before Minecraft. “ The average person visiting Pornhub views around 8 pages before finding the right video to get the job done. It’s a process of refining results to find that video that fits their current mood,” the blog post explains.
The report found ‘Halo,’ ‘Clash of Clans,’ ‘Call of Duty,’ and ‘Fallout 4’ were the most popular searches preceding ‘Minecraft’. “Apparently if ‘lego’ and ‘pokemon’ porn aren’t doing the trick, it’s worth trying some Minecraft,” the blog post jokes…but seriously.
The study also found 80 percent of Minecraft porn searchers are between 18 and 24—this age range is 498 percent more likely to want Minecraft porn than other age groups. Women only represent 15 percent of Minecraft porn viewers.
Game porn seekers are watching Minecraft videos from all devices, however 82 percent use their tablets and mobile phones. Minecraft came along in 2011 and has since sold 70 million copies worldwide. Needless to say, the third best selling game of all time has some hardcore fans.
