After a bit of teasing over the last week, Valve has finally revealed its new VR game, Half-Life: Alyx. The game takes place between the events of Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2, when Alyx Vance and her dad, Eli Vance, team up together to protect the planet from the Combine forces.
While being a VR exclusive game, Valve has claimed that Half-Life Alyx is going to be full-length Half-Life game featuring combat, puzzles, exploration, and a new story that bridges the gap between the previous two Half-Life games. One of Valve’s game designers even said that it takes approximately 15 hours to complete the game. The numbers can be higher if you want to explore more.
"We’ve invested a lot of ourselves in the technology. But we're also game developers at heart, and to be devoting ourselves to a VR game this ambitious is just as exciting," Valve head Gabe Newell stated. "For that to come in the form of Half-Life feels like the culmination of a lot of things we care a lot about: truly great games, cutting edge technology, and open platforms.”
Half-Life: Alyx is set to launch in March 2020 and is going to be available on all PC-based VR headsets. However, if you own a Valve Index headset, you can get the game for free along with all bonus content. The bonus content includes alternate gun skins for Alyx’s weapons and Alyx-themed content for CS:GO. Once it’s released, Half-Life: Alyx will automatically show up in your Steam library. You can also still get the game even if you only own the Index controller and not the complete VR kit. To everyone else, the game will cost about $60.
Although we are indeed getting a new Half-Life game, it still does not satisfy our hunger for a sequel to a story that has been left hanging for over a decade now. Valve hasn’t spoken about anything regarding Half-Life 3, but we can all just hope that one day, and that day might not be too far, that we’ll get to play the most anticipated game of all time.
