'Pokémon Legends: Z-A' Theory: Could Zygarde Destroy Lumiose City in Upcoming Game?

A lovely Lumiose city might turn into ashes someday.

"Pokémon Legends: Z-A" could be the next big thing after the breakout success of "Pokémon Legends: Arceus." It's confirmed to be a mainline entry although official information is limited as of writing.

However, Zygarde's role in the game is often questioned if it's with the good or evil forces. A new theory suggests that with its inclusion, a disaster is brewing in Lumiose City. Though early visuals give it a good light, Zygarde's rich history implies that something is amiss.

'Pokémon Legends: Z-A' Is Set in a Contemporary Lumiose City

The Official Pokemon YouTube Channel

The newest trailer for "Pokémon Legends: Z-A" has revealed that the game takes place in the modern-day Kalos city instead of the past, a change from "Pokémon Legends: Arceus."

Lumiose City, the center of Kalos, is being redeveloped on a massive scale by the Quasartico company. This change appears to be intended to fit a wide variety of Pokémon into the city limits, thus becoming the game's main location. Yet the involvement of Zygarde introduces the possibility that this city development can have terrible effects.

Zygarde, The Guardian of the Pokémon World's Ecosystem

Zygarde has a special place in the world of Pokémon. Being the protector of nature, it maintains balance in ecosystems. Unlike other Legendary Pokémon, Zygarde has more than one form, and its strength grows depending on how many of its Cores and Cells come together. The trailer shows the dog-like 10% Forme of Zygarde, and it leaves us wondering why it is guarding Lumiose City.

Zygarde's appearance is probably connected to the city's redevelopment. Quasartico's intentions might be to bring about harmony between Pokémon and humans, but this transformation might be attracting Zygarde's interest for more than mere admiration. AZ and his eternally living Floette, survivors of the Ultimate Weapon's devastation, could also be a key reason, as they challenge the natural cycle of life and death.

Can 'Pokémon Legends: Z-A' be the Pokemon Z that fans have been Waiting For

Despite Zygarde being introduced in Pokémon X and Y, its complete potential was not unleashed since Pokémon Z was never out. Rather, its mechanisms first appeared in Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Many people regard Pokémon Legends: Z-A as the long-awaited Zygarde-based game, long last giving the Legendary Pokémon its well-deserved spotlight. But its appearance hints at the fact that something very serious is undermining Lumiose City's ecosystem.

Is Lumiose City on the Verge of an Ecological Crisis?

Given Zygarde's purpose, its appearance in Lumiose City could mean an environmental crisis is looming, ScreenRant writer Matthew Wilcox theorized. While Quasartico's redevelopment seems beneficial, it may be concealing deeper issues. There's a possibility that an element within the company is cutting corners or engaging in harmful practices that disrupt the city's ecosystem.

If this were true, it would fit into other Pokémon stories where corporations have a sinister role. "Pokémon Sword and Shield's" Macro Cosmos, for example, under Chairman Rose, threatened Galar's balance for the advancement of progress. Since Quasartico has so much power over Lumiose City, it is no wonder that its leaders have a secret agenda.

Zygarde's Final Judgment

In the worst-case scenario, Zygarde might conclude that Lumiose City itself is the biggest threat to the environment. Players might then be in for a fierce battle against Zygarde's mighty 100% Forme, similar to the final battle with Giratina in "Pokémon Legends: Arceus."

The battle could make the most of "Legends: Z-A's" new battle mechanics, with players having to break down Zygarde bit by bit, each part having special attacks and abilities.

"Pokémon Legends: Arceus" provided one of the series' most iconic conclusions, and the two-phase fight against Giratina was memorable. "Legends: Z-A" might do the same by offering an epic confrontation in which players have to prevent Zygarde from destroying Lumiose City. Picture the devastation of Prism Tower or other beloved landmarks as part of a desperate battle to avoid an environmental disaster.
