In 2011 when Sony experienced a massive network outage that lasted 23 days, the company initiated a Welcome Back program where users can pick two free games as compensation for the network issues and one of the free games available in the library was WipEout HD/Fury. While it seemed like a throwaway game to make it up for the 77 million accounts that were illegally accessed, the game was a highlight for its visuals and intense racing.
In December, Sony announced that they will release a new WipEout game that would include three of the games from the Wipeout franchise. WipEout Omega Collection would feature WipEout HD, WipEout Fury (an expansion pack for WipEout HD) and WipEout 2048. While these games were all visually stunning on the older PlayStation consoles, all three games were remastered for the PS4 and PS4 Pro at 60 frames per second.
WipEout Omega Collection would be released on June 6 for the PlayStation 4 Sony announced. It will be $39.99 and it will available in both as a physical release as well as being available in the PlayStation Store, where you can pre-order now. Here are a few of the features that fans of WipEout can look forward to.
- Fully remastered sound effects
- The addition of 28 licensed music tracks from artists such as Swedish House Mafia, Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy.
- 9 different modes, including tournaments, speed laps, time trials, Zone mode, and career mode
- Full racebox mode to tweak and customize their own races
